Our Story
Abidagba Health Centre is located at Iloti village which is between Epe and Ijebu-Ode. The Clinic started off in 1980s in a room of the Rural Development Centre where common ailment such as malaria, typhoid, diarrhoea, childhood infections were treated. Since its inception the clinic has carried out numerous programmes and services for the benefit of the local communities situated around the clinic. With its well-equipped laboratory and qualified staff, the clinic also offers classes in health care, nutrition, and hygiene. Mothers are taught the basics of the nutritional needs of their babies and balanced diets for a family to avoid malnutrition and combat preventable diseases.
The Abidagba Health Centre is a licensed clinic by the Nigeria Ministry of Health, with facility code 27/10/1/1/1/0015 and registered as Primary Health Care Centre.
How We Started
The population in the Iloti Itamakpako area generally prefers traditional medicine and herbs to modern medical techniques in health centres. Thus, the task involves overcoming the resistance from patients to receive health care.
Having realized the essential need to establish a Medical Centre in Iloti area, it was important to seek donors who could provide the funds needed for the construction of the Centre. However, two major donors did offer valuable help: Manos Unidas and a German family, the Dominicks, who wanted to contribute in memory of their son Andreas who had been killed in a car accident.
Special appreciation to these benefactors as well as to some Nigerians who also donated. The construction commenced and Abidagba Health Centre was opened in December 1996 by the Director General Health, Ogun State, Dr. Tunji Adelowo. In his speech he said “The new Centre is in line with one of UNICEF’s child survival strategies, female literacy which ultimately aids women empowerment and family life improvement. This is yet another laudable effort of the Women’s Board to contribute to the socio-economic development of the Ijebu-Ode Local Government area”.
